Feeling of student

        Hundreds of students from provinces and cities across Cambodia visiting the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center as part of their educational tour. Below are the comments of two students regarding their feelings and thoughts after the visit:

        “After visiting Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, I feel saddened and regretful for the victims whose lives were lost under the Khmer Rouge regime. As a member of the next generation of Cambodians, I hope that everyone gets to learn how to be mindful in order to avoid any conflicts. More importantly, we should learn about the negative impacts that war and genocide can have on society. Educational tours to historical sites like Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Genocidal Center are important.” – Pech, Grade 9th

        “After my visit to the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, I feel sorrowful to see that so many Cambodian lives were lost under the Khmer Rouge regime. To prevent this kind of atrocity from happening again, as a member of the next generation of Cambodian youth, I urge everyone to stop discriminating against any national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. More importantly, I hope everyone gets to learn about our history and disseminate the catastrophic consequences of war.” – Seyha, Grade 9th
